Roman Art Company Collectibles

The Roman Art Company was founded in St. Louis, Missouri, in circa 1905 by Vincenzo Borghesi, his brother, Amerinto Borghesi, and their brother-in-law, Ulisse Barsanti, who was married to the Borhesis’ sister, Pia.  The founders immigrated to St. Louis from the town of Bagni di Lucca in the Province of Lucca in the Region of Tuscany, which is famous for the production of statues and figures generally manufactured from Gesso A, a form of chalk.

Naturecraft Collection

Started in 1931, Naturecraft was based in Congleton, Cheshire, England and produced wall mask, shelf ornament figures, wall hung figures, wall hung hoses and animals.

Duncan Royal Santas

The Duncan Royale History of Santa collection represents the evolution of Santa and gift-givers from 2000 B.C. to the 20th Century. The thirty-six piece limited edition collection was created in three editions, 1983, 1985, and 1990.

Christopher Radko Cookie Jars

The Christopher Radko Company started with the falling of Christopher Radko’s family Christmas tree when more than 1,000 vintage mouth-blown glass ornaments were broken. Armed only with his memories of his family’s ornaments, he enlisted a Polish glass blower and together they went to work, trying to recreate his family’s lost heirlooms.

Fitz and Floyd Cookie Jars

Established in Dallas in 1960 by founders Pat Fitzpatrick and Bob Floyd, Fitz and Floyd started off as an import company, but soon progressed to the design and sale of ceramic giftware, tabletop products and accessories. By the 1970s, the company had several popular hand-painted ceramic gift lines in production. Fitz and Floyd collectibles are known for their intricate, imaginative designs that vary from humorous to elegant pieces.

The Original Snow Village

On a magical night in 1976, as huge snowflakes fell, the concept of developing a Christmas Village began in Stillwater, Minnesota as an inspiration in recreating the same moment for others to enjoy. That year, six crudely made hand-painted ceramic houses were inventoried in Department 56 of Bachman’s Florist and became known as the original Snow Village Collection.

Hummel Figurines

In the 1930s, Sister Marie Innocentia’s drawings of children began to appear in Germany and Switzerland on “Art Cards,” a precursor to post cards. Soon after, Franz Goble, a porcelain maker, acquired the rights to turn Hummel drawings into figurines with the first line being produced in 1935. In the late 1930s, the figurines became popular in the United States with German immigrants residing on the East Cost.

Bossons

W.H. Bossons was a graduate of the Burslem School of Art and an honor student at the Stoke-on-Trent College of Ceramics. Following a career in the ceramic tile industry, he retired to Congleton, England in 1944. As a hobby, W.H. Bossons began making lead soldiers and Christmas figurines out of metal and plaster.

Lakeland Studios

Assisted by former Bosson sculptor, Alice Brindley, along with sculptors Phil McHugh and Adrian Southwell, twenty-six wall masks were produced by this English Company from 1997-1999. In 1999, six additional masks were considered, but were discontinued when the company closed.

Legend Collectibles

The Legend Lane Company was started in 1947 by Mr. Alec Cochrane in North Wales, England. After being discharged from the Army, Mr. Cochrane opened a shop which sold a range of hand-crafted souvenirs. By 1950, he had commenced with producing decorative plates, plaques and heads.
